Sloane Berrent
Sloane Berrent is a digital communications and marketing strategist specializing in cause-based campaigns. She combines high-level social media strategy, product evangelizing, fundraising and community development services to for-profit and nonprofit companies.
Her expertise in creating integrated marketing campaigns is created from her 10 years of experience working for nonprofits, a social good startup and co-founding successful campaigns including “Cause It’s My Birthday,” a campaign to raise money (over $19,500) and awareness for malaria prevention in Ghana. She has raised, to date, over $1.5 million dollars for nonprofits and impacted the lives of thousands through her blog, The Causemopolitan, and extensive use of social media tools including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
In January 2010, Sloane was named as the citizen journalist to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland for the MySpace and The Wall Street Journal communities. She is a former editor of LAist and current contributor to SocialBrite. She has been interviewed by national print and online publications including The Chronicle of Philanthropy, ReadWriteWeb, TriplePundit and the LA Weekly to tell her courageous personal story about incorporating cause into her life and how all of us can look for ways to give back every day and been included on power lists including Women of the Year 2009 snd Forbes' 20 Inspiring Women To Follow On Twitter.
A frequent speaker at conferences, Sloane has also given guest lectures at Columbia's School of International and Pubic Affairs, CalTech and spoken to students in elementary through high school about philanthropy. She is passionate about engaging audiences and giving them real world applications and tips to make giving back easy using social media and technology and also speaks on finding your true passion and how anyone can learn to be a connector through simple networking tips.
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Sloane is a graduate of the University of Vermont, and in addition to those places has lived in Rome (Italy), Boston and Los Angeles. Sloane's greatest passion is travel and experiencing people in new environments and cultures and she has been to 33 countries and 43 states. Sloane spent 2009 as a global volunteer offering her services to organizations and working in the field as a Kiva Fellow in the Philippines for the summer of 2009. Part of that year-long journey included two months in New Orleans, LA (kicked off with this Love Letter) where she was struck by the bursting entrepreneurial community and focus on social enterprise and relocated there in December of 2009. She has since co-launched NOLAlicious, a weekly newsletter of events in New Orleans to help build community and showcase the new New Orleans to both locals and people nationwide.
Always one to put words into action, Sloane contributes the social entrepreneur segment on the New Orleans webshow, LPTV and also co-founded CrisisCampNOLA, as part of the nationwide Crisis Camps helping technology communities respond to the earthquake in Haiti. |
